PACIFIC
Classical Symphonic Orchestra
Classical Symphonic Orchestra
GENERAL
PACIFIC is a forthcoming symphonic orchestra library, based around a symphonic-sized string ensemble and brass, woodwind, and percussion sections. The library offers an ambient, classical-leaning sound, and was recorded in the same room as Fluid Shorts 2, as well as the now-discontinued Con Moto series, Caspian, and original Fluid Shorts – using an alternative technical and seating arrangement.

What’s in Pacific?
Originally it was just strings, but I decided to record some accompanying brass, woodwinds, and percussion to fill it out. These will be sold separately: strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion. All recorded in the same space with the same setup.
What’s the difference between Pacific and Voyage, then?
They are completely separate full orchestra libraries. Recorded in different halls with different musicians.
Pacific was originally just a classical symphonic strings project (16-12-10-8) which I wanted to do in one cohesive group of sessions. It uses fundamental techniques like rep sampling for shorts and so forth, but doesn’t get into really experimental articulations, nor less common arts (arguably) like sul pont trem or col legno. There was some focus on legatos as well. The Pacific strings were recorded with a lot of dynamics, like I have been doing on Voyage. In post-production I decided I would also add some brass, woodwinds, and percussion. These are most of the way through recording. These were done in addition to the strings, rather than starting from the beginning and wanting to go out and do a comprehensive full orchestra library. So Pacific is symphonic strings, a2 brass sections, woodwinds, and a fairly diverse but rather limited variety of percussion. The strings are rather homogenous sounding, and don’t have a lot of detail to them. I would say that this hall is bigger than the Voyage room, and it has very high ceilings. I love this space.
Voyage on the other hand was me deciding from the get-go that I wanted to do a full orchestra all in one room, and so there’s more focus on the different sections. This room is less ambient, and is the same room that Oceania I/II, Vista, and others were recorded in. The strings are far smaller in size. There are, again, quite a few dynamics on the strings in this library, although I am still doing recordings for it. This project is always evolving and I have re-recorded stuff and will be doing more sessions before it’s complete. This project is far more experimental and rough around the edges (particularly on some patches). Pacific is more “curated” and planned, in comparison. Voyage is more of a stream-of-conscious project….. record…edit.. record again.. etc etc.. Different alternate versions of patches. It’s a smorgasboard, and demonstrates some new, experimental sampling techniques I’ve been playing with. Some of the techniques have worked out pretty well, while others I’m still navigating. More info on Voyage later this year (there are some early demos online at the Voyage webpage – https://performancesamples.com/voyage/).
