VOYAGE
A Bespoke Orchestra
A Bespoke Orchestra
Full orchestra in one room, employing performance-source approaches (both new, and as well as based on what has worked in past development). All details & specs subject to change.
How comprehensive is the library?
Speaking for strings – in this case – it’s fairly comprehensive at this point (i.e. up to four types of trems, multiple types of arco shorts, trills, sords, harmonics, col legno, pizz, marcatos, clusters, legato, some other experimental ideas that may or may not make their way into the final library… and whatever else is recorded ultimately). However a big component of the “comprehensive” nature of the library comes from “vertical” depth: lots of dynamics. Longs at this point have up to 15 dynamics, and shorts up to 14 dynamics. It’s not just for show – it helps, particularly on shorts. Another benefit is the inevitable “gel” that comes from multiple layers played at the same time (particularly on a soloistic, smaller ensemble – where homogeneity can be countered by creating more variation between performance on dynamics, particularly on things like trems).
Is it next-gen?
No, it’s last-gen – primitive coding-wise and relying primarily on performance techniques and basic sample manipulation, envelopes, start points – aside from some specific post-processing steps, most of Voyage is based on approaches that would have been possible years ago (like most PS releases at this point). The focus is on performance, running the gamut between chaotically noisy & intense (as it is in some cases) and “noise-floor soft,” and an effort to bring things together in a playable manner.
How much will it cost?
TBA, most likely not before release, but it will be boutique pricing.
How will it be released?
All subject to change, but most likely strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion – four separate modules. Each module will not necessarily be the same price.
